What is Revenue?

Revenue is the first item on the Income Statement so it is also called the topline. Revenue represents all income from operations a company made during a financial period (usually one year or one quarter).

For investors and business managers, revenue is a measurement of the health of a business. A poor revenue might suggest an ineffective business model since the company can not make enough sales.
